The greater Salt Lake area has a population of 1,175,905. The Wasatch Front population is 2,350,274. (2012 census)
Salt Lake City was founded in 1847 by Brigham Young. Brigham Young was also the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints whose members settled this valley. Other immigrants came from Mining booms and the construction of the first transcontinental Railroad which connected in Ogden, Utah.
Before the settlers came to this valley it was home to the Shoshone, Ute and Paiute nations for thousands of years.
